A striking contemporary for sale in the heart of Austin, Texas’ Tarrytown neighborhood takes its design roots to another level.

Built in 2003, the showplace displays the architectural expertise of Dick Clark & Associates, a local firm with a reputation for creating imaginative and inspirational spaces. Since then, the house has been remodeled by Texas Construction Co., which specializes in custom homes.

The resulting living space attests to the timelessness of fine architecture. Set on a third-acre gated lot, the Texas limestone home is entered through a pivoting door off a stone court.

A soaring wall of windows overlooking the front lawn brings daytime light into the 4,760 square feet of interiors and adds to the glow of a wall of burnished sapele wood paneling. Glass doors open the formal living space to a sheltered front patio, where an overflow crowd of party guests could mingle. Just down the hall is a wine room and bar.

“This is such an entertainer’s house,” says listing agent Wade Giles, who envisions the buyer as someone who loves to entertain and appreciates the home’s architectural history.

A second living area—a sunken conversation space—sits off the sleek kitchen. Stainless-steel and sapele cabinetry, thick soapstone countertops and open shelving add an industrial vibe.

The adjacent dining room features a hibachi grill built into the table and a vent hood. A wall of windows looks out to the swimming pool and the trees beyond.

Windows at the back of the floating glass-railed staircase take in a view of a massive stone sculpture fountain.

The upstairs primary suite features a marble-clad bath, walk-in closet and downtown views. A secondary suite includes a paneled sitting area and a corner balcony.

There are a total of five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The separate guest house has its own kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

The third-acre property is in a walkable neighborhood filled with trees and quiet streets.

Giles of Moreland Properties is representing the house at 1305 Meriden Lane in Austin. The asking price is $4.9 million.

“Austin’s luxury market ($2 million-plus) continues to show signs of strength,” Giles says. “We expect to see a jump in inventory coming into our spring market.”
